Moving anything up to Darwin is a big deal, for cars and furniture. Due to just how far away Darwin is from the rest of Australia, there are a few things you need to be aware of prior to arranging transportation of your car.
Lets assume you’ve gone through the booking procedure already, as it is no different going to Hobart or anywhere else.
However if you’re only just starting the process now, the first thing you will need is a quote, which you can get by heading to our instant quote page. We require merely a handful of details to be able to provide you a firm and instant price, along with a bunch of useful information regarding your move.
If the vehicle you are transporting is being collected from an address, you will receive a call the afternoon prior, or on the morning of, to collection to discuss and arrange a collection time. If you have booked a depot drop off be aware that all depots are only on Monday – Friday and as a general rule are closed for all national public holidays.
The depot hours are Monday-Friday between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
These times are also applicable for both collections and deliveries to addresses.
Please note that all transit times are estimates only and can never be guaranteed. At the time of completing each car booking, we are supplied an estimation of transit, which we use to update our quotes transit time very regularly. This ensures that are transit times are as accurate as possible.
Please be aware that at any time there can be a delay in transit, due to (not limited to) High quantities during peak periods, rail issues such as derailments, flooding, bushfires, road accidents, or any other situation. The transit times we provide are based on business days and therefor do not take into account weekends or public holidays.
Please note that we are unable to transport a vehicle with items inside.
Unfortunately due to carrier requirements, we are currently unable to provide the service of moving items within a car on route to Darwin.
This includes (but not limited to) bags/boxes/tools etc. However we are able to transport baby car seats as long as they are secured in the same way they would be whilst being used to keep your child safe within the car.
If you are having your vehicle collected from your address, or dropped off to an address, there must be somebody present at each end to accept the vehicle, take the keys, and do a vehicle check. (similar to the process you undertake when hiring a vehicle.) If you are unable to be there yourself, this task is best delegated to a close friend or family member.
All vehicles heading to Hobart and Tasmania are subject to a possible quarantine inspection upon arrival. Depending upon the state of the vehicle, there may be extra charges added to allow the vehicle to be released. If your car is found to be contaminated and does not pass the initial Quarantine check, there will be a minimum Quarantine cleaning charge of approximately $125.00
Once complete, your vehicle will then need to be inspected a second time to ensure it now meets the quarantine criteria. This may also incur additional charges. This charges are payable directly to the carrier, not Moving Cars. This is because the carrier is the one who pays the quarantine agency.
If for any reason, after payment has been made you decide that you need to cancel, we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee of somewhere between $80.00 and $195.00 depending upon circumstances of cancellation, plus any extra charges related to inaccurate information provided at time of booking. Any reimbursements that are needed can take up to 5 business days to process.
Any changes to your booking must be provided in writing to us with a minimum of 24hrs warning for a depot drop off and 48hrs notice for a door collection or delivery. Also please ensure that you read, and understand all of our terms of transport, which can be found here.
