Vehicle Quarantine Guide for WA and Tasmania
Before sending a vehicle into Western Australia or Tasmania, check both the destination’s biosecurity requirements and the instructions for your booked transport service. A Goods in Car booking does not make restricted items acceptable at the border, and an item permitted by the state may still be refused by your carrier.
Clean before handover
Allow time to clean and inspect the vehicle before collection. Pay attention to the underside, wheel arches, tyres, floor mats and cargo areas. Remove soil, seeds, plant material and other debris, including from any outdoor equipment the carrier has agreed to transport.
Western Australia
WA checks incoming freight and quarantine-risk items. Its official guidance highlights clean vehicles and outdoor equipment, and restrictions affecting food, plants, seeds and other biological material. Requirements can change with pest and disease risks.
Use DPIRD’s current guide to what you can bring into WA to check individual items. Do not use a generic packing list as permission to carry them.
If belongings are included, first confirm that your selected service accepts them on the WA route. Ask the carrier which declarations apply to your shipment and how to complete them. WA’s personal-effects guidance includes a declaration process with the removals company; do not assume it is identical for every vehicle-only shipment.
Tasmania
Biosecurity Tasmania requires vehicles to be clean and identifies declaration and inspection requirements. Contaminated vehicles may be directed for cleaning or treatment. See the official vehicle entry guidance.

Belongings, inspections and costs
Most quotes offer a Goods in Car option: select and book it where available if you intend to leave belongings in the vehicle. Check the carrier’s weight allowance and packing instructions separately from the state’s entry rules. Do not pack perishables, plants or dangerous goods for vehicle transport.
Inspections, additional cleaning or treatment can affect timing and costs. Ask the carrier about charges applicable to your shipment; there is no fixed cleaning price quoted in this guide. Cleaning before handover does not guarantee clearance.
Before your vehicle is collected
- Check the official guidance again close to the transport date.
- Confirm any belongings are accepted by both the service and the destination’s rules.
- Complete the paperwork requested by the carrier and keep your booking reference handy.
- Follow the vehicle preparation checklist for fuel, EV charge, keys and condition photos.
