Moving a car between Perth and Sydney involves more than choosing a departure date. Decide who can hand over and receive the vehicle, whether you need transport to an address or can use a depot, and how you will manage while the car is in transit. Moving Cars arranges carrier options based on your vehicle and the journey you request.

Pickup and delivery options

Handover options depend on the location and selected service. Capital cities and larger centres may offer depot or address collection and delivery. In smaller towns, handover may be at your address, through a local agent or at an agreed meeting point with the driver. Your quote confirms the available arrangement. The enclosed-network depots listed on this page identify transport connections; they are not necessarily your pickup or delivery handover points.

Enclosed transport and connecting legs

Enclosed transport is available between capital-city depots in both directions. Townsville is also part of this enclosed depot network and is treated as a capital-city depot for quoting purposes.

For Perth–Sydney, enclosed transport is available between Perth depot and Sydney depot in both directions. Any connecting address pickup or delivery outside that depot leg uses a standard carrier. Moving Cars can arrange those connections as part of the full journey; an address-to-address booking is not automatically enclosed for every leg.

To request enclosed rates, obtain a standard vehicle quote, then reply requesting an enclosed upgrade. Confirm the depot locations, enclosed leg and any standard-carrier connections before booking. The initial standard quote does not book an enclosed service. See the enclosed enquiry guide.

Perth to Sydney

Enter Perth as the collection location and Sydney as the destination, with the actual suburbs or postcodes. If you are leaving Perth before collection, nominate someone who can release the vehicle, supply the keys and take part in the condition inspection.

At the Sydney end, describe the delivery location accurately. An apartment entrance, underground car park or busy workplace may not provide suitable loading access. Confirm an accessible handover location with the carrier rather than assuming the truck can enter the property.

If you are flying ahead, keep the flight booking separate from the vehicle’s estimated arrival. Ask how collection would work if the car arrives before you, including any storage arrangements and charges.

Sydney to Perth

For the westbound trip, enter Sydney as collection and Perth as delivery. Request a quote for this direction: the price, collection window and available service may differ from Perth to Sydney.

Prepare the vehicle for entry into WA, including checking for soil and plant material. Read our WA and Tasmania quarantine guide, then follow the carrier’s instructions for this shipment. If you want belongings inside, confirm the Goods in Car option is available for the WA-bound service before packing.

For a car bought in Sydney, agree with the seller who authorises release, where the vehicle will be accessible and when payment or paperwork will be complete. Tell us if the car is at an auction or has damage that was not included in the original quote.

Compare the whole journey

If offered, compare depot handover with collection or delivery to an address. Ask for the actual depot locations, opening hours and release requirements; include your own travel to and from them when comparing costs.

Check what the quote covers at both ends and whether any part of the movement uses a different arrangement. Ask about the collection window, estimated transit period and delivery notice separately. Do not treat an estimate as a guaranteed arrival date.

Vehicle details that change the service

Supply the make, model and running condition, plus modifications affecting height, length or ground clearance. For a vehicle that cannot start, roll, steer or brake, request specialist assessment before accepting a standard drivable service.

If you need enclosed transport, obtain a standard quote and reply requesting enclosed upgrade rates. Check which legs would be enclosed using our enclosed enquiry guide.

Questions before booking

Can I leave luggage in the car?

Every available quote offers a Goods in Car option. Select and book it, then follow the allowance and packing rules for your selected service. Availability for a WA-bound trip must be confirmed; a return-direction quote is not permission to pack.

What should I prepare for handover?

Have a quarter tank of fuel or a charged EV, the required keys and clear condition photos. Follow the preparation checklist and the carrier’s instructions.

How do I compare prices fairly?

Compare the same addresses, vehicle details, belongings option and transport type. Review inclusions and possible extra charges using the car transport cost guide.
