Accurate vehicle and location details give carriers the best chance of pricing the job correctly. Before requesting a quote, have the following information ready:

• the exact pickup and delivery suburbs or towns;
• the vehicle make, model and body type;
• any modifications that change its standard height, width, length or ground clearance;
• whether the vehicle starts reliably and can be safely driven onto a carrier;
• whether it rolls, steers and brakes if it is not running;
• your preferred pickup window and any dates that cannot move; and
• the name and phone number of the people available at collection and delivery.

A lifted four-wheel drive, vehicle with a roof rack, low-clearance sports car or modified ute may need a different carrier or loading position from the standard model. Declaring those details before booking helps avoid a revised price or failed collection.

Door collection and delivery

Door service can be convenient, but a large carrier still needs safe legal access. The collection contact should be ready to answer the driver’s call, including calls from a private number.

Depot options

Depot-to-depot transport is normally the lowest-cost option when suitable depots are available for the route. It removes local collection and delivery legs, but you need to arrange travel to and from the depot and comply with its opening and release requirements.

Regional Victoria

Regional collection can require more flexibility than a metropolitan pickup. If the vehicle can be collected at any time within a wider window, there may be more carrier options than for a fixed-day collection. Preparing the vehicle for transport

Complete these checks before the handover:

3. Check that the tyres are inflated and the vehicle can roll, steer and brake.

Non-running and damaged vehicles

Do not list a vehicle as running if it starts intermittently or needs a jump-start. Reliable loading is part of choosing a suitable transport option.

Timing and transport estimates

Pickup and transit times are estimates rather than guaranteed appointment times. Weekends and public holidays may not count as business days. Weather, floods, road closures, peak demand, carrier schedules and long-distance road conditions can also affect the journey.

If you need collection on one fixed day, declare that before booking. A wider pickup window may provide more options, while a fixed date can cost more or require a different service.

Buying a vehicle in Victoria

If a dealer, private seller or auction house is handing over the car, confirm who will release it and which documents the driver must present. Auction houses may require a paid invoice, buyer or lot details and a written release authority. Requirements differ, so complete the requested paperwork before collection is arranged.

The person handing over the vehicle should know that a carrier will call to arrange the collection. Missing paperwork or an unavailable contact can result in the driver being turned away.

Transport cost is only one part of an interstate vehicle purchase. Consider the vehicle price, transport quote, possible storage or depot fees, the pickup window and the estimated delivery time together.
