Car transport delays: estimates and updates

A car transport estimate is a planning window, not a guaranteed delivery appointment. Carrier schedules can change before collection or during the journey. If you have a fixed deadline, explain it before booking so the proposed service can be assessed against your needs.

Why an estimate may change

Weather, road closures, traffic, vehicle or equipment problems, high volumes and connecting transport stages can affect timing. Public holidays and carrier operating hours can also affect handovers. Their impact varies by route and service; there is no single percentage increase that applies to every journey or holiday period.

Missing release paperwork, an unavailable handover contact or a vehicle condition different from the booking can also interrupt collection. Give accurate details and complete the required preparation in advance.

Understand when the estimate starts

Our capital-city transit guide gives broad business-day ranges from collection or depot drop-off. Confirm the estimate for the actual booked service, including any regional collection or delivery legs. A capital-city range is not an estimate for every town in the surrounding state.

Ask separately about collection availability and expected arrival. Do not treat the day you request a quote as the first day of transport.

Requesting a progress update

Plan around an uncertain arrival

Avoid arranging an inflexible registration inspection, sale handover or onward trip around an unconfirmed arrival day. Keep the delivery contact available and tell the carrier promptly if your availability changes.
