Moving a vehicle between Port Hedland and Adelaide? Start with the actual collection point, receiving address and vehicle condition. Pickup and delivery options
Handover options depend on the location and selected service. Capital cities and larger centres may offer depot or address collection and delivery. In smaller towns, handover may be at your address, through a local agent or at an agreed meeting point with the driver. Your quote confirms the available arrangement. The enclosed-network depots listed on this page identify transport connections; they are not necessarily your pickup or delivery handover points.
Enclosed transport and connecting legs
Enclosed transport is available between capital-city depots in both directions. Townsville is also part of this enclosed depot network and is treated as a capital-city depot for quoting purposes.
For Port Hedland–Adelaide, the enclosed option combines these legs in either direction:
- Port Hedland ↔ Perth depot: standard carrier.
- Perth depot ↔ Adelaide depot: enclosed transport.
Moving Cars arranges the full journey, including the standard-carrier connections; you do not need to organise those legs separately. This is a mixed enclosed/standard service, not enclosed transport for the entire journey.
To request enclosed rates, obtain a standard vehicle quote, then reply requesting an enclosed upgrade. Confirm the depot locations, enclosed leg and any standard-carrier connections before booking. The initial standard quote does not book an enclosed service. See the enclosed enquiry guide.
Port Hedland to Adelaide
Enter Port Hedland as collection and Adelaide as delivery, using the actual suburbs or postcodes. If the car is elsewhere in the Pilbara, supply that location rather than using Port Hedland as a placeholder. Describe site access, gates, induction requirements and when an authorised person can attend collection.
If you finish a work roster before pickup, nominate a release contact who can supply the keys and complete the handover. Confirm any employer or site release arrangements before scheduling transport.
At the Adelaide end, decide whether you can receive at an address or use a depot if offered. Ask for the actual depot location and hours before arranging your own travel there. Explain if you will arrive after the car so collection and possible storage charges can be discussed.
Adelaide to Port Hedland
For the reverse trip, enter Adelaide as collection and Port Hedland as delivery. State the final destination accurately, including a worksite or property beyond town. A quote ending in Port Hedland does not automatically include onward delivery.
Prepare the vehicle for WA entry: clean it and check accepted belongings against the WA quarantine guide. Confirm that Goods in Car is available on the selected WA-bound service before booking that option.
Tell us about a work start date or limited receiving hours before accepting a quote. Ask for a collection window and estimated transit period, and keep an alternative plan if the vehicle’s timing changes.
Work vehicles and fitted equipment
Give the make, model and running condition, plus dimensions including canopies, roof racks, bullbars and towballs. Disclose damage, leaks, low clearance or equipment that affects loading. A standard model description may not represent a modified ute.
Tools and loose equipment are not automatically included as part of the vehicle. If you want belongings carried, select and book Goods in Car where offered and follow the service’s weight and packing rules. Do not leave spare fuel containers or gas cylinders inside.
Questions to settle before booking
What if the vehicle is no longer drivable?
Explain whether it starts, rolls, steers and brakes. Specialist transport can be assessed, but it must be confirmed before collection rather than assumed under a standard quote.
Can the same price be used in both directions?
Request each journey separately. Dates, handover locations and service availability affect the quote. Use our cost guide to compare matching inclusions.
What should the handover contact prepare?
Have the keys, release details and condition photos ready. Prepare a quarter tank of fuel or a charged EV and follow the vehicle preparation checklist alongside the carrier’s instructions.
