Pickup and delivery options
Handover options depend on the location and selected service. Capital cities and larger centres may offer depot or address collection and delivery. In smaller towns, handover may be at your address, through a local agent or at an agreed meeting point with the driver. Your quote confirms the available arrangement. The enclosed-network depots listed on this page identify transport connections; they are not necessarily your pickup or delivery handover points.
Enclosed transport and connecting legs
Enclosed transport is available between capital-city depots in both directions. Townsville is also part of this enclosed depot network and is treated as a capital-city depot for quoting purposes.
For Canberra–Melbourne, enclosed transport is available between Canberra depot and Melbourne depot in both directions. Any connecting address pickup or delivery outside that depot leg uses a standard carrier. Moving Cars can arrange those connections as part of the full journey; an address-to-address booking is not automatically enclosed for every leg.
To request enclosed rates, obtain a standard vehicle quote, then reply requesting an enclosed upgrade. Confirm the depot locations, enclosed leg and any standard-carrier connections before booking. The initial standard quote does not book an enclosed service. See the enclosed enquiry guide.
Canberra to Melbourne
Enter Canberra as collection and Melbourne as delivery. Use the correct collection suburb or postcode, particularly if the vehicle is at an address outside Canberra rather than in the city itself.
At the Melbourne end, check access before choosing address delivery. Tell us about apartment buildings, basement parking, narrow access or a workplace with limited receiving hours. Confirm where the vehicle can be safely handed over and who will attend.
If this is part of a household move, coordinate the car separately from the removalist and your own travel. Explain the dates you can accommodate, and ask how the vehicle handover would work if the two deliveries do not coincide.
Melbourne to Canberra
For the reverse direction, enter Melbourne as collection and Canberra as delivery. Obtain a separate quote rather than reversing a previous price or estimated transit time.
If the car is being purchased in Melbourne, confirm when it will be released and who holds the keys. Dealer, auction and private-sale collections can have different contact and release arrangements. Supply the actual pickup details and disclose damage or a non-running condition before booking.
At the Canberra end, nominate a receiving contact and explain any site-entry or appointment requirements. Keep that person informed of the carrier’s confirmed handover instructions.
Is a depot option practical?
Where offered, compare a depot option with address collection or delivery. Include the time and travel needed to reach the depot, not just the transport price. Confirm the depot address, opening hours and collection documents before making your own arrangements.
If you cannot attend during the available window, ask whether another person can collect on your behalf and what authority they will need. Do not assume the depot can store the vehicle without charge.
Cars, campervans and caravans
A campervan, motorhome or caravan needs its own assessment. State the actual vehicle or trailer type, length, width, height and relevant weight details. Include fitted accessories. A caravan is not a passenger car, and a car quote should not be treated as confirmation of caravan transport.
For a car that cannot start, roll, steer or brake, use the non-running vehicle guide and describe its condition. Contact Moving Cars if your vehicle does not fit the standard quote fields.
Questions before booking
How long will it take?
Ask for the collection window, estimated transit period and receiving arrangements for the offered service. Tell us about a deadline before booking; an estimated arrival is not a guaranteed delivery date.
Can I pack belongings inside?
Every available quote offers Goods in Car. Select and book that option and follow the allowance for your carrier and service. Read the belongings guide before packing.
How should the car be prepared?
Have a quarter tank of fuel or a charged EV, keys and condition photos ready. Follow the preparation checklist, including advice on accessories and alarms.
Request your vehicle quote, and use the cost guide to compare the same service inclusions.
