Pickup and delivery options

Handover options depend on the location and selected service. Capital cities and larger centres may offer depot or address collection and delivery. In smaller towns, handover may be at your address, through a local agent or at an agreed meeting point with the driver. Your quote confirms the available arrangement. The enclosed-network depots listed on this page identify transport connections; they are not necessarily your pickup or delivery handover points.

Enclosed transport and connecting legs

Enclosed transport is available between capital-city depots in both directions. Townsville is also part of this enclosed depot network and is treated as a capital-city depot for quoting purposes.

For Sydney–Canberra, enclosed transport is available between Sydney depot and Canberra depot in both directions. Any connecting address pickup or delivery outside that depot leg uses a standard carrier. Moving Cars can arrange those connections as part of the full journey; an address-to-address booking is not automatically enclosed for every leg.

Sydney to Canberra

Give the Sydney collection suburb and any building, street or business access restrictions. If collecting a purchase, check the seller’s release hours and paperwork. Enter the actual Canberra delivery suburb and nominate someone who can take the carrier’s call and attend the handover.

Canberra to Sydney

For the return direction, confirm the Canberra pickup location and the Sydney destination separately. Explain if the vehicle is kept in an underground garage or other restricted space. A quote using Canberra should not stand in for a different nearby collection address, such as Queanbeyan; enter its actual postcode.

Work out the handover logistics

Ask whether the proposed address can be used safely and whether a meeting point or depot is part of the offered service. Compare your travel time and opening hours as well as price. Keep the vehicle accessible on the agreed day and explain any limits on when a seller, building manager or receiving contact can attend.

Is same-day delivery included?

Do not assume it from the distance. Ask for the collection window and delivery estimate for the specific service, and discuss a fixed deadline before accepting the quote.

Before collection

Have a quarter tank of fuel or a charged EV, keys and release details ready. Photograph the vehicle’s condition and follow the preparation checklist. Report starting, rolling, steering or braking problems so specialist transport can be assessed where needed.
